West Kirby is a small town in England which resides on the Irish Sea near Liverpool. This was our home for a number of years. When the tide is out you can walk to an island called Hilbre, which is one of the most beautiful and peaceful sanctuaries in Northern England. The attraction for me was the lush soft grass and unobstructed views of Wales. These years living in West Kirby were wonderful and yet very difficult. My husband and I were trying to begin our family. We would celebrate a pregnancy, even have an ultrasound, and within three months I would miscarry. We lost six babies. I felt as though my body was no longer a safe place for my children. After each loss we sought places of beauty and safety. Hilbre Island was one of those places. It was a place to pause and rest – to feel safe and breathe deeply.
This feeling of safety is what I desire to communicate to women in pregnancy and childbirth. My desire is to be a grounded voice of reason and a resource of knowledge. My service is two fold. First, I am offering my knowledge of pregnancy and childbirth as a Childbirth Educator without the pressure to hire me as a doula. I offer four important classes that will prepare the mother and her birth partner for labor. Second, I am a DONA trained doula. I have attended hospital and home births over the last 20 years. Personally, I have had one hospital and three home births. Hopefully my experience can help women find their momma voice and strength as they bring life into this world.
Through my training with Spinning Babies I believe it is crucial to understand how movement and posture during pregnancy effects labor. Many women experience a posterior baby (sunny side up, back labor) which usually stalls a labor for 10-15 hours and is incredibly painful. I want to help women understand their bodies and help their baby find their position (head down, chin tucked, usually on the left side, back of the head toward the front of the belly) before labor begins. I teach Spinning Babies positions that are usually done every night to help with the alignment. There are many techniques that can help during labor as well to keep the labor progressing.
My services include (but not exclusive to) the areas of: Wheat Ridge, Edgewater, Lakewood, Green Mountain, Littleton, Columbine, Englewood, Denver, Stapleton, Aurora, Thornton, Westminster, Arvada, Broomfield, Lafayette, Louisville, Golden, North Table Mountain, Genesee Park, Evergreen, Indian Hills.
